Today! Political Prisoner Letter Writing
When: Sunday, November 2 at 4PM - 6PM
What: We’re hosting the Portland Anarchist Black Cross for a regular prisoner letter writing event!
Writing letters to political prisoners is a gesture of solidarity to break the social isolation of imprisonment, and to show those trapped in the carceral system that there are people on the outside who support and value them. Prison is a lonely place, but for a brief moment, an incarcerated person can live life outside of prison - even if it’s just as long as your letter.
No experience required, just a little of your time to write about whatever comes to your mind.
Queering your Sci-Fi & Fantasy!
When: Thursday, November 6 at 6:30PM
What: Join authors CB Lee, Rosiee Thor, Julia Ember, and Tehlor Kay Mejia as they chat about their queer science fiction and fantasy novels and examine elements of craft from worldbuilding queernormative versus realistic settings, how the speculative elements lend themselves to queerness, and how to subvert classic SFF tropes.
One-Shot Book Club: You Weren’t Meant to be Human
When: Thursday, November 13 at 6:30PM
What: Join us to discuss Andrew Joseph White’s adult debut (and Raf’s favorite book of 2025), You Weren’t Meant to Be Human!
This is the first in our One-Shot Book Club series! Our main book club is a monthly, genre-fluid book club, with picks chosen by a vote and options that don’t include hardcover adult books to keep it more accessible. But sometimes we are just too excited about a book and want to talk about it asap OR have a specific book of series we want to revisit with others OR a book we want to have a book club for doesn’t get voted for by book club members (OR ect, ect!!) Which is where the One-Shot Book Club comes in- These will just be random, one-off book clubs, unrelated to our main book club!
T4T4T(s): An evening with Alex Iantaffi & Lucie Fielding
